Amy Holton Designs was born out of the simple burning desire to never work in an office again and a desperate need to do something creative. After years in the corporate world and a handful in the performing arts, a move to Austin offered the opportunity to get back to an earlier interest in creating wearable works of art. I’m inspired by the colors and textures in nature and only use natural materials in my work. In high school, my art instructor began our first class by noting that as an artist, you must practice being observant, taking in the detail of the world around you…and I did. This sentiment stayed with me all these years and encouraged me to look at the world through different eyes, seeing the beauty and aesthetics in our surroundings. A couple of years ago, my husband and I sat on the beach in Mexico, simply taking in our beautiful surroundings. I stared endlessly at the turquoise waters, thinking how beautifully the different shades of blue and green played off of each other, like apatite, blue topaz and emerald. I’m fascinated that such intense colors are mined from deep within the earth and I love the natural, effortless feel that handmade jewelry exudes. Each piece is individual and intended to enhance your own personal style. There’s something peaceful and tranquil I find in creating jewelry. To have in your hands stones and metals from the earth and sea, and from them create a work of art, is truly gratifying. I can only hope to create pieces that move and inspire you as well.
